T stands for posTcard.......

                                               A mixed media Postcard!
This PostCard was once a cereal box or some such food box and i lightly sanded it and  put several coats of gesso on it and tried my hand at an ombre blue acrylic paint background ... then painted on a tree branch....Hubby brought me home some brochure from somewhere that had this cute little puppy on it and said  ' I KNEW you'd want it' ...lol See i have 'my people' trained...lol

I had a pretty piece of scrapbooking paper in Fall colors and my oak leaf punch and went at it... making sure i got some of the gold that was on the paper... I used a small set of letter stamps with archival ink.... The letters are a little hard to read but i don't have a fine point white pen or i would have highlighted them or something..

Now this person i'm sending it to wants it to go in an envelope not just a postcard naked thru the mail... so i cut it to the size of a business envelope AND this person wants me to put a magnet on the back so she can hang it on her frig which is really kind of funny when you know that i used to hang that person's art on my frig when she was little.... lol

Before you run off my little T partiers ... I wanted to show you the latest finished project... Above is the before... Its a sun and was a part of a wine bottle holder.... I got it for a steal at a yard sale... Hubby cut off the wine bottle holder part...as we don't drink wine... I scraped off all the old glue and painted it black...

Then sprayed it with oilrubbed bronze and dry brushed antique copper and bright copper.... I think it came out pretty... Its going on the sun wall if you remember by the front door..  I'll show you when installed.. :)

Thats all my T people ... Another week closer to Thanksgiving... We are having company staying with us so i've been cleaning like a crazy woman and trying to finish up some projects that are within reach of being finished... installing some doorstops behind doors... staining another window sill and installing some more baseboard.. I still have hopes of hanging the family portraits before company comes... I'm staining the shelf and pole that goes in the hall closet so maybe i can get the coats off the guest bed... that would be good huh? lol... Take care and thank you Ms. Elizabeth and Bleubeard for another wonderful week of visiting.... Hugs! deb

An Ode to Flannel,Warm Coffee and a Good Book......

..... after 4 miserable days in the 80'sF we are back down to 'flannel weather'...' warm fuzzy slipper weather'..' chilli in the crockpot weather'.... 'honey did you turn on the electric blanket weather'...

..on the warmest days i busied myself in the craftroom on the lower level.. its cooler down there... i refused to turn the air condition on in November!!!  These are a part of the ceramics hubby and i poured years ago.. I nearly forgot about them and why i poured them...

.... here you can see the beginning of the dry brushing... I have a collection of eggs that i display in my curio cabinet.....

... here is the next step in the dry brushing.....
They've only just laid in there... i never really managed to get enough holders to hold them upright...which is the way i'd rather display them..

.... We may have been warm the last several days but i think the bugs knew that change was on the horizon ... We've been bombarded with wasps and bees and spiders and ladybugs all hunting a warm spot for the winter... Most of those are not welcome to spend winter with me but i think this cute little ladybug could stay....
Ladybug,ladybug fly away home
Your house is on fire and
Your children are all gone
All except for Anne
Who crept under the pudding pan...
Isn't that how it goes?? I think some people say Ladybird instead of Ladybug... I saw an article on the internet saying that it depends where in the US you grew up as to which you call it... lol

If you look close you might be able to tell that i dry brushed some gold along the top edge too... I'm not sure if the photo does it justice.. you could try clicking on it to enlarge but it looks rather nice in person i think....

Here's another view of the finished ones... I have some more holders to make and once i get them all on their shelves i'll show you how that looks...

Here's a  little something from the sketchbook... I wasn't paying attention to what i was doing though... I thought to make the stars reflect in the water but forgot about the moon or the bridge.... oh well... its just a sketchbook... I'm not very happy with my 'splatter technique ' either... It always makes me nervous to do that... i like more control.. lol

Well lovely ladies i daresay that about all for this week...  I'm in heaven with the cooler weather and even a little misty rain... Hunting season is in full swing and the deer have become scarce... can't say i blame them... They've changed their schedule as to when they come by the house... now its after dark or in the wee hours of the morning.. when i'm usually too lazy to get my butt out of bed... Take care all my Tparty people and friends that stop by... I'll be around to visit you... Hugs! deb

peTer, peTer pumpkin eaTer.......

Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater
Had a wife and couldn't keep her,
He put her in a pumpkin shell
and there he kept her very well.....

.... and then he decided to join us for tea

....can't quite make up his mind....

But finally.....

He decided to visit with us for tea.... I think maybe i need a trough... lol
If the deer aren't your 'cup of tea' I did finish a projecT...

I found this at the same auction i found that old mirror if you remember.... I paid a little more for it than i wanted ($15) but some other lady wanted it and we went back and forth... grrrrr..

I liked the color of the outer rim so i covered it with painter's tape but the inside color was not my cup of tea so i painted it satin black.....

See how the outer rim looked like wood? I didn't want to lose that...

I like black and wood grain together.........   Well that's all for my week T party people... We had a cold spell but now we're getting ready to warm up again in the 70's.. maybe a little rain expected...  I'm painting some trim and working on a few projects to get ready for company for Thanksgiving.. oy vey... I'll be around to visit!!! Big big hugs! deb

PS.  Ms. Elizabeth i did receive a PostCard from Krisha a few weeks ago but thats all... as far as i know all is good...

I Hardly Know Where to begin.........

Fall has come...... and finally routed out our Indian Summer... Just something wrong about breaking a sweat in October... This is my Dogwood tree in all her glory... buds already set for next Spring...

Click to enlarge and you can see the tree we lost back behind hubby's shop.... A storm front blew in around midnight night before last... I could hear the wind howling before it even arrived..  I stood in the dark listening to it blow in... (hubby was snoring) and i heard a loud 'CRACK' and thump... just thankful it wasn't near the house...

My friend Eileen was surprised that i planned on displaying some of our PostCard swaps on the walls in my house..   I just love them and they inspire me and i want others to see them and not just me..  So i took my favorites off the cork board in the craftroom and displayed them by the front door..  Gorgeous no ? There are some from Krisha and Violet and Valerie too.. My thumbtacks were shiny silver and i spray painted them bronze with a kiss of copper.. I thought that looked somehow classier... lol

Progress on Hubby's painting.... I worry about messing it up but i just grit my teeth and try to be brave.......

Craft shows were in full force around here this past weekend.... For the past three years we have gone to the War Eagle Craft Show which is just a few miles down the road from us...

It was a lovely Fall day but Lordy i've never seen the like of people.. Its a 4 day event and we always go on the first day .. first thing in the morning... our rationale is that it won't be so busy then... WRONG... lol It was wall to wall people from the get go.. Honestly took away from some of the enjoyment but what can you do... either go or don't go.. right?

Above we are walking across the War Eagle bridge... a very old , picturesque bridge... Theres a craft show on both sides of the bridge..I can't say i saw anything new... alot of the vendors are very similar.. The prices are high for my pocketbook... A bag of kettlecorn popcorn was $8.(thats a sweet/salty snack) thats high to me.. I enjoyed seeing the pottery... i drooled over the coffee mugs but won't pay $20 for a coffee mug...just can't make myself do it.. But i enjoyed being surrounded by all that creativity... just made my Muse sssiiiiinnggg!! lol

And this little guy was so cute in his sunglasses i had to take a picture.... He didn't seem to mind wearing them at all...

And for all my Tea People visiting from Ms. Elizabeth's and Bleubeard's I have tea in my cup up in the header... I have a family member that loves to send me different varieties of tea... I don't go for the fruity ones but i do love anything along the line of Chai ... and this was very good... The cool evenings now make me want to wrap my hands around a cup of tea....I hope you've had a wonderful week... I can't wait to come see what you've been up to! Hugs! deb

The Week That Was...........

Look at this handsome boy!!  The best time to catch a glimpse of the bucks around our place is at first light... when everything is completely still ... maybe a little mist or fog coming up out of the hollow.... We often see several bucks at the same time in the yard... they are still tolerating each other well ... Bow hunters line the roads early in the morning... I couldn't imagine trying to run that gauntlet as a deer.. If only they'd stay right here on my little 6 acres and they'd be safe...lol  I put out water and theres lots of grass... the occassional corn.. but thats not gonna find them a mate so they will leave.....

So, how was your week???  Last Tuesday as we were doing the T party we had one of our coldest days yet! You know i was in heaven! Now i'm sitting here and its 85 F  but lets not talk about that... lol  That day that was so cool was Oct 10 and lots happened that day... One .. Hubs and the neighbor declared war on hub's sisters plumbing... If you've been following along .. we've been fighting  her plumbing since we moved here 2 years ago.. tried nearly everything including bringing in some actual plumbers... She has a very old rock house.. like 1920ish.. very little room to actually get under the house to do anything.. but it had come down to no choice.. and look what they found in this little section of cast iron pipe!  The tree root went thru the cast iron!!

Looking at this pipe you would think we had never tried anything to clear it out.... We tried the whole roto rooter thing several, several times... poured rootkill down the line.. you name it we tried it.. she even bought a new toilet because nothing else was working..  Finally the guys rolled up their sleeves and got down and dirty....tore it all apart and replaced most of the cast iron with PVC pipe....As you can imagine she is soooo tickled she can flush her toilet now... something so simple but it can make your day.. lol

Writing has slowed but continues......
Lets see what else happened that nice , cool October day...  OH! While i was reading everyone's T party post i kept hearing this noise... i hadn't heard it much in a very long time... So i stepped out on the deck to investigate and lo and behold it was Geese!!! Flock after flock of Canadian Geese flying south!!! OMGosh it was a sight to see... I grabbed my hoodie and out the door i went.. i just had to be out there and be a part of the great migration... !! :)

I even made pumpkin bread that day!! 2 loaves... one to eat and one to share with the neighbors.. Gosh see what cool weather does to me!! I'm ashamed to say all the pumpkin bread was gone so fast i didn't even get a photo... It really turned out good.. I'm sure theres more in my future this Fall and i'll be sure to get a photo and share the recipe...

And to top off a wonderful day....... Hubs and i shined the flashlight out in the front yard before going to bed and there was a Momma Raccoon and two babies on the stump.... The stump is mostly hollow and i put peanuts and seeds and such down the hole and it keeps the squirrels and chipmunks and such entertained to clean it out..lol  Those babies were soooooo soooo cute! Too dark for a photo though.. If you don't know.. raccoons have a peculiar way they move.. they almost waddle side to side and to see the babies move that way was so adorable... Well geesh .. thats been my week... lol  I can't wait to come visit everyone and see how your week has been! Thank you Ms. Elizabeth and Bleubeard for hosting such a wonderful gathering... Hugs! deb
