In The Spirit of........

.......Earth Day........ Hubby made a birdhouse from leftover bits and bobs of our house redo.. The roof is those leftover slats from installing blinds... what do you do with those??? And the wood is left over from construction on the house..... We have so much wood leftover... that pole on top... was the bannister that went up the stairs .... don't ask me.. totally hub's design.. I think it gives it a rather Swedish flair.. but i could be wrong... lol

Hub's design right down to the colors.. :)  Pretty bright for a man that screamed at my bedroom colors...lol  But honestly i'm just tickled to death to see his creativity come out.. to just let loose and play in his shop.... to immerse himself in a personal project.. He does so much for others and works on the house that rarely does he do something just for his pleasure..  Pssst... the bottom opens up so you can clean it out..

Have i showed you the wooden snake i picked up at an Estate Auction for $4??? Oh what a hideous paint job..imho... I sanded off the shine... i swear i think it was enamel because that paint wasn't moving much...

Then i had the idea of using Air Dry Clay to cover him... I have never played with this clay before so there was a slight learning curve.. and i didn't know how much it would shrink..(not much)  But all in all he came out good...

There ... can you see the texture better?  I used an old flourescent light cover to put texture in the clay.. And the best part.. i didn't have to bake the clay which i was trying to avoid..  Now i plan on finishing him in the Steam Punk style with gears and keys.. I'm having some trouble finding molds for that as i'd like to make them out of clay so i can mold them to the curves of his body.. I think it would look more realistic and natural that way.. I may make my own  molds out of gears and keys i have.. Hmm.. never tried that either..

Go Deb Go!!! Almost there!! lol

Hubs hat rack i've woodburned.. That was all i was going to do and then stain it.. but now i've had the brilliant idea that i might like leaves around the edges.... So i have a practice board there you can see in the picture as i'd like to try a different technique... stay tuned..

This is a sliver of wood that hubby had leftover from a project that i thought looked just like a crescent moon ... Well you know i had to have a play.. I'm using very fine copper wire for the 'string' and my how it sparkles and really adds something to it.. the beads are glass and a few are rainbow hematite... I'll show close ups if i ever get done...lol

This is a repair job going on.. These are outdoor flowers that the beads got smashed in our move from TX to CA and i never got around to fixing them in CA but i'am now.. Three total.. One more to go.. I might get to see them in place this year!! Woot Woot!

And last but not least .. for my fellow T partiers... There's been alot of this lately.... I'am not a natural born water drinker... i have to make the effort.. but i know i always feel better when i do... so my water drinking waxes and wanes... A belated Happy bEARTHday to our host Ms. Elizabeth and a belated Happy Earth Day and may you live in the spirit of Earth Day all the year long . :)  I'm so glad for all those who stop to visit and chat and i'll be visiting you right back! Hugs! deb

Lets Play Catch Up........

.......I think they wilted beautifully...... ...and they were still wonderfully back lit this morning.. I added a 'Napa' filter to enhance them just a little.

Yes , i think playing catch up is the order of the day..  LOOK! The bird houses made it to the trees!!!  I think we are too late this year...

But even so something may decide to live in it and perhaps they will be good if the birds decide to have a second brood later in the summer..  We shall see........

My poor little gargoyles as you know were crumbling and falling apart..

I hope this paint job and clear spray will help them hold together..  I think the dry brushing came out fair thee well...

The first of several drink references in this post Elizabeth... I've just tried to get in the habit that if i want to take a picture of something i make sure a drink is in the photo too..lol   Doodling some roses here.. or at least my idea of doodle roses... I like them here....You can click the photo to enlarge...

But not so much when i colored them .... If i do it again i wouldn't color those tear drop shapes black...

A project ... a project.. You know i'am always doing something.. This project has been long waiting in the wings... i think the sheer tediousness of it had me daunted.. That and i'am not very skillful with a glue gun...

Burned fingers... yes and yes.. Now do you know what seed pods these are..??? They are CrepeMyrtle seed pods... should i tell you i hauled a bag of these pods from Tx to Ca THEN to Arkansas?? And i'am just now doing the deed?? No i don't think i'll tell you.. What would you think of me..............whoops........ Should i tell you that the cardboard cone i was going to use is double or triple this size...? But in a sane moment i decided life was too short and found a smaller one...lol ...... whoops... I'm just baring my soul here...lol Perseverance is key ...  stay tuned...

Another face found her way into my sketchbook... No reference just me fiddling..

I've decided not to color her... just leave her sketchy..  You can see i took out the earrings... Aahhh she's awful wonky... I was very dismayed when i had hubby look at me straight on and i could see his ears... that meant i had to try to draw in ears for her  lol...... I did a little more after this photo... I'll post it again...

Here i sketched another one of Ginger Cooks painting lessons.. I 'm feeling the need to try to paint this one..

I finished up some triage on a Christmas wreath and got it put away.. Felt good to get it done...  All those little balls are styrofoam! and get damaged very easily.. It was a mess after the move from CA ... So i touched up painted all the balls and sprayed it with a glossy clear coat.. Hopefully next year i can put it out.. Its a very difficult piece to store.. I have it in a softsided wreath holder and there lies the problem.. but it is so large that i do not find a hard case for it..

And last but not least is my 'Boredom' themed PostCard for Ms. Eileen... I'am seldom if ever bored... But i have to say there are times watching TV in the evening that i'am bored with our selection.. and in that case i reach for the sketch book and divide my attention between the TV and doodling..  Now, this is not my doodle... the only reference i could find for it is someone called Singleton.. He or she has some lovely  doodles..  I colored and added some glitter and shipped it off to Eileen!! Hope everyone had a fabulous week...I'll be around to visit my fellow T partiers.. I'am ever so grateful for all your visits and comments and if your not a Tpartier i'll be around to visit you too.. Hugs! deb

Daffodils ...................

...........are just starting to wane here in NW Arkansas..... and my Dogwood tree is ready to burst into bloom.... from the look of things it will be an epic bloom... Last year my Dogwood had hardly any blooms... I think the squirrels discovered it and ate alot of the buds... this year apparently it slipped their minds... lol

The wind has been roaring through the pines the last couple of days .. and today promises to bring strong storms... My plan is to hunker in the craftroom today and let the world go by.. Yesterday i spent the day in Hubby's Shop ... picking up.. straightening up, putting things away.. sweeping... He has so much going on out there between him and the neighbor working on projects that it gets away from him..  He was gone for the day yesterday and i thought what a nice surprise it would be if he came home and didn't have to clean up his shop before moving on to the next project... good decision.. he loved it.. :)

Later i will put some boneless pork ribs in the crock pot along with some onions and our fav BBQ sauce ... MMmmm what a great way to not have to stand over the stove and cook..  Saturday and Sunday its back to colder temps which is fine by me... Give me my warm winter woolies to snuggle into and i'm happy.. Enjoy your Friday the 13th!  Make it a good day. Hugs! deb

A Little House Catch Up.......

..... if you'd like to share a nice cup of T or any other liquid libation and good conversation , please join Elizabeth and Bleubeard and the T ladies every Tuesday. The rules are really very simple and we'd love to have you... Your post just needs to have some drink reference... a photo of your morning coffee or some artwork with a drink reference... the possibilities are endless..  Be sure to share a link to Elizabeth's blog and then usually starting Monday afternoon you can link your post up at Elizabeth's  and we will all come around to visit and chat.. If that sounds like fun please join us!

Above you can see hubby installed the windowsill i stained in the kitchen.. Woohoo!!!! Something so little but it looks so nice and sure made me smile... Can you see the curve he made into it to go around the faucet ? I wanted a wide windowsill in the kitchen as i'd like to set some plants on it... I have a few varieties that Jinx usually leaves alone... And i miss having plants.. Are you a houseplant person? I've always had houseplants even if its just pothos ivy...

Now i've posted this photo for the few people that mentioned they didn't know what 'mudding' meant .... When you put sheetrock on the wall you have to 'mud' wherever there is a screw.. You sink the screw into the sheetrock a little then fill the hole with 'mud' then the tricky part... you smooth it off... The sheetrock is 4'x8' sheets so you have to put a wide piece of tape over the seams where they come together then yep.... put mud over the tape and ... then the tricky part again... you have to make it smooth... Professionals knock this job out in no time... but hubby and i .. well lets just say ..... even though by this time i'm getting quite good at it.. I don't plan to EVER do this again!!! lol So between raking pine needles and 'mudding' thats pretty much taken up my days of late.. But as there is ALWAYS time for a little art i have the latest pics of Hubby's painting to show you... :)

Just so we all remember where it all started....lol I'm happy to say that there is no longer any white canvas showing!! Woot Woot!

Can you tell the difference between the above(before)  and below(after)picture? I hope so.........

In the picture below your looking at the bottom row ... these are flower centers as hopefully you will be able to tell they are flowers the next time i post ...lol  But if you look you can see i put shadows and highlights on the orange centers on that bottom row..

I know so hard to tell... Then on this bottom picture all the orange centers have been shadowed and highlighted and at the bottom you can see i've started to outline them with my Pitt Pen by Farber Castell ... Its india ink and permanent.. Any fine detail you see on the painting was done with this type of pen..

I'd like to end with something near and dear to both Elizabeth and myself.... A reminder of Earth Day coming up April 22 or as Elizabeth calls it bEARTHday as her birthday is involved.. lol Recycling is a big part of my everyday life... I like knowing that even though i'am only one person and really such a small part of the big picture i CAN do something and what i do does make a difference...

In recent years hubs and i have had to make several trips to the city dump and seen first hand all that is there... It always saddens me to go there ... not just to see all the trash but to see all the trash that doesn't HAVE to be there.. the plastic bottles and bags and such... So the above picture is my Earth Day reference this week... Even if you don't recycle do you cut up the plastic drink rings before you throw them away??  That way they don't get stuck on some animal's neck or bird's beak... I learned this a  long time ago and i still do it... I try not to purchase drinks this way , with the rings.. but it happens.. I keep a pair of scissors in the kitchen and it only takes a few seconds..  I hope your all having a great week and i'll be by to visit soon!!! Hugs! deb

After a Cold Night...

..........I woke up to this yesterday morning..... I cannot tell you how much i treasure moments like this.... My side of the hollow gets the morning sun...... the deer come to warm themselves and fill their bellies on the new Spring grass..... I especially love that they feel safe enough to lie down ....  If i walk out on the deck i hardly disturb them.. I can talk to them and they listen...You will often hear me say....  'GoodMorning Ladies'... 'How's my Girls?' ... lol

Sitting here with oatmeal contemplating my day....(Its always Quaker Maple and Brown Sugar with raisins added and pecans and a little Equal)  Today is cloudy... suppose to warm up to 60F... Hope so ... i need to get out there and do more raking and picking up... Rain (over and inch) called for tomorrow afternoon...  After living in drought most of my adult life i never turn down rain.. never.. Let it pour!

I hope Thursday is good to you.  I'm going to try not to get sucked down the craft room 'rabbit hole'.. I have several projects nearing completion and that always calls my name...lol Hugs! deb
